| A series of such multi-maneuver flights often becomes a spectacular display of aircraft and piloting performance. Variety is the key to the most versatile performance. When two or more pilots compare skills, lack of variety quickly becomes the limiting factor of the lesser pilot or the lesser model. Along with variety, a contest winning performance will have many other qualities. Style plays a big part in HLA by demonstrating the polished skill of the experienced pilot. For example, landing instead of catching is usually considered "without style". Also, having to run to make a catch usually demonstrates a lack of style. For "styling" hand launch aerobatics the model should crank through as many maneuvers as possible. They should demonstrate extreme capability of both plane and pilot, be cleanly executed, and creative. The model should spend more time maneuvering than it spends flying straight and level. |
